FAQ's

An industrial sawing machine cuts metal with a continuous saw band or a rotating circular blade. It cuts tubing, profiles, shafts and plate to length, which is why it usually sits first in the process chain, ahead of turning, milling or welding. Compared with abrasive cutoff it loses less material, puts less heat into the part and holds length better.

A band saw runs a continuous saw band and covers large and changing cross sections flexibly, including miter cuts and contour work. A circular saw uses a rotating blade and is faster on smaller cross sections, with a clean face and little cleanup. Cold saws run at low cutting speed and high torque, which keeps the part cool.

Five points decide it: the material, the largest cross section you cut, whether miter cuts are needed, the number of cuts per shift and the finish you need. For one-offs and maintenance work a manual or semi-automatic machine is enough. If you run many identical cuts every shift, an automatic saw machine pays for itself against the operator time saved. On an automatic saw machine the bar feed, workholding and cut cycle all run under control, and the operator only sets up. It pays off as soon as identical cuts come in batches or labor is tight, because an auto feed saw works through several parts without intervention. A semi automatic band saw is the middle path: the cut cycle is automatic, while clamping and feeding stay manual.

We do not offer a CNC saw with freely programmable path control, and cutting metal to length does not need one. The heaviest automatic saws in the program run an NC control: cut length, piece count and cutting sequence are programmed and repeated accurately. For freely programmable contour work, CNC milling machines or laser and plasma cutting machines are the right tool.

Carbon and alloy steel, stainless, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous metals can all be sawn, and with the right blade hardened and high alloy material as well. Cutting speed, feed, coolant and blade selection are what matter. Stainless needs a lower cutting speed than carbon steel, aluminum a much higher one.

Tooth pitch follows wall thickness and cross section: coarse for solid material, fine for thin wall tubing and profiles. Bi-metal saw bands are the standard for steel, while carbide tipped bands and blades cover hard material and long tool life. We supply matching saw bands and circular blades for every machine we sell.

Every machine is inspected with documentation before it ships and is built and tested to European testing standards, with quality control in Germany. Guarding, emergency stop and blade protection are part of the machine, not an extra. We provide the technical documentation and the test records on request so your safety officer can sign the machine off.

Yes. Manual and semi-automatic sawing machines suit training well, because trainees handle workholding, cut guidance and machine safety themselves. Rugged construction and simple controls matter more here than a high level of automation. For schools and training shops we also put machines together as a complete package.

Rule of thumb: the band saw is the flexible all-rounder for large and changing cross sections. The circular saw wins on smaller sections, short cycle times and finish quality.

Levels of Automation: From Manual Saw to Automatic Saw Machine

The level of automation matters more than the type. It sets how much operator time every cut costs.

  1. Manual: clamping, feed and cut start are handled by the operator. Fine for one-offs, maintenance and training.
  2. Semi-automatic: the cut cycle runs by itself, clamping and moving the bar stay manual. A semi automatic band saw is the usual answer for a shop with mixed work.
  3. Fully automatic: bar feed, workholding and cut cycle are all controlled. An auto feed saw works through a batch while the operator does something else.
  4. NC control: the heaviest automatic industrial band saws use an NC control. Cut length, piece count and cutting sequence are programmed and repeated.

A true CNC saw with freely programmable path control is not in the program, and cutting metal to length does not call for one. Start from the number of cuts per shift, not the machine price.

Applications and Industries

Metal sawing machines belong wherever material is cut to length. In machine building, shafts, beams and tubing are prepared for machining. In fabrication shops and structural steel, profile and miter cuts are daily work. In maintenance and plant services the saw has to handle everything, from a repair sleeve to a replacement beam.
