Sheet metal machines cut flat stock and form it. The lineup covers guillotine shears for straight cuts, press brakes and folding machines for bending flanges, and plate rolling machines for cylinders and cones. Start with three numbers: bed length, gauge and alloy. Then look at how often the job repeats. One off and repair work does fine on a manual machine, while repeat production earns back an NC or CNC control. Send us a couple of typical parts and we will pick the size.

Yes. Every machine is inspected against European testing standards and the result is documented before it ships, with the documentation available on request. CE marking applies to the European Economic Area, so it is not claimed for machines supplied into the United States.

They are. Manual shears and folding machines are the usual starting point, because a student can watch the cut and the bend happen. Add an NC or CNC model once the curriculum covers programming. We put packages together for community colleges and vocational programs.

The Americas service team looks after the machine after installation, with parts and technical support from Germany behind it. Common wear parts ship from the Lincolnshire warehouse outside Chicago, and special items come straight from the manufacturers of the components. Parts supply is committed for ten years across the company.

If the job repeats, yes. The program holds the bend sequence, crowning is adjusted automatically and the angle holds from the first part to the last. You save setup time and scrap. For one offs and repair work a manual machine is still faster to get going and cheaper to own.

A press brake drives the blank into a bottom die with an upper tool, so it reaches high tonnage and tight inside radii. A folding machine clamps the blank and swings a beam upward instead. Brakes win on short tight flanges and complex bend sequences, folders win on long flanges, trays and light gauge panels.

A guillotine shear handles straight cuts across the full bed at the lowest cost per cut, hand powered or motor driven. Contours, holes and internal cut outs belong on a fiber laser or a plasma cutting machine instead.

Punch and die pick the inside radius on a press brake, and a segmented clamping beam lets you fold a closed box. Folders run a segmented folding bar, shears run blade sets that can be reground. Tooling, dies and blade sets go on the same quote as the machine.

Used equipment costs less up front and comes with no manufacturer support, frequently without full documentation and without any parts commitment. From flat blank to finished part: the order of operations

Most fab shops run the same route: cut first, form second, dress the edge last. Straight cuts in flat stock belong on the shear, while profiles, holes and internal cut outs go to a fiber laser cutting machine or an industrial plasma cutting machine. On the forming side the geometry picks the machine: short tight flanges on the press brake, long or light gauge flanges on the folder, anything round on the plate roll. Tube and structural work moves to tubes and profile processing, forming jobs to machinery presses.

Manual, NC and CNC: picking the level of automation

A manual machine has no control at all, which is often exactly right for a maintenance shop, prototype work or a school lab. NC models drive the back gauge and the ram to a set position. A CNC machine holds the whole bend sequence in a program, adjusts crowning automatically and repeats the same angle across the run, so setup time and scrap drop out of the cost. Existing machines can be retrofitted with sensor kits and IoT gateways.

Materials and gauge range

These machines run mild steel, stainless, aluminum, copper and brass. Gauge by itself will not tell you whether a machine is big enough, because tensile strength drives the tonnage. Stainless takes considerably more force than mild steel at the same gauge, aluminum takes less. Bed length, gauge and alloy have to be read together, and every model page states the rated capacity in gauge and inches.

Tooling, dies and accessories

On a press brake the punch and die pick the inside radius, and a segmented clamping beam lets you fold a closed four sided box. Folders use a segmented folding bar, and shears run blade sets that go back to the grinder instead of the scrap bin. Dies, blade sets and accessories go on the same quote as the machine.
