Machine types and how they are built

The other choice is single versus double miter. A single-miter machine angles one way only. A double-miter machine swings both directions, which keeps you from re-clamping every time the angle flips.

Angle cutting and where these saws earn their keep

An angle, or miter, cut takes the workpiece off square at whatever setting you dial in. Shops rely on it for frames, weldments, tube assemblies and any joint where two profiles meet. Common stock runs from round and square tube to angle iron, channel, structural beam and solid bar in carbon steel, stainless and non-ferrous alloys. How far the head swings varies by model, and many machines miter to both sides.

From hand-fed saws to bar-fed automatics

Pick the automation level to match your throughput, not the other way around.

1. Manual: the operator runs the cut by hand, which suits single parts, repair and mixed work.
2. Semi-automatic: hydraulics drive the head down and clamp the stock while the operator loads and cycles.
3. Fully automatic: a bar feed indexes material on its own for repeat lengths in volume.
4. NC control: at the top end the saw runs length, count and cut sequence from a program. There is no full CNC miter bandsaw in the lineup.

Matching the saw to your work

What you cut, how many and how much you want automated should drive the pick. Repair and short-run work get by on a manual or semi-automatic saw, while repeat production to tight length tolerance justifies a bar-fed automatic with NC. Cutting mostly square with no angle? Look at the horizontal straight cutting bandsaws instead. For internal cutouts and contours you want vertical bandsaws, and for burr-free cuts in solid stock the circular sawing machines.

Blades, tooling and material handling
