What is a tube end finishing machine

A tube end finishing machine works the end of a tube or section so that it can be joined or welded cleanly. Typical tasks are notching at the required radius, deburring after sawing or notching, and weld seam preparation. The result is a burr-free, dimensionally accurate tube end of the kind steel fabrication, machine building and above all the automotive and supplier industry rely on.

Tube end finishing processes

A clean tube end comes down to three steps, and KNUTH covers each with a suitable machine:

• Notching: the tube end is cut to the required radius so that two tubes meet accurately. KNUTH offers dedicated tube notchers in a manual and a motorised version.
• Deburring: after sawing or notching, burrs and sharp edges are removed from the tube end. This is safer to handle and the basis for a clean weld seam.
• Weld seam preparation: the tube end is finished so that it welds safely and tightly.

The market also offers forming processes such as upsetting, reducing and expanding, as well as CNC-controlled systems. These processes are not part of the KNUTH range. Which of the machines on offer suits your tube is something we settle on request.

Materials, applications and industries

The machines mainly work round tube and section in mild steel and stainless steel. Diameter, wall thickness, material and the required notch radius decide which machine you reach for.

Typical work is in steel and metal fabrication with frames, railings and tube structures, in machine and plant building, and in the automotive and supplier industry, where burr-free, weld-ready tube ends are standard.

Manual or motorised

The tube notchers come in a manual and a motorised version. The manual machine is simple and quick to get running and suits individual parts and the workshop. The motorised version works with more power and repeatability and suits recurring jobs. Which version fits your diameter and quantity is something we settle with you.
