Industry: Engine components for industrial, shipbuilding, and energy plants
Goals: Expand production capacity and achieve higher quality standards
Technical Challenge: High precision and reliable repeatability in the machining of heavy workpieces
Solution: 4 KNUTH machines covering key steps from material preparation to finishing
Result: Significant increase in production volume, process reliability, and precision, along with more efficient internal workflows
The Finnish family-owned company with 100 employees produces critical engine components for international machine and engine manufacturers, standing out through technical expertise, high quality, and modern manufacturing technologies. "We see ourselves not just as a parts supplier, but as a technological partner to our customers. We expect this same mindset from our suppliers," explains Aerikkala.
Rising production volumes, tighter tolerances, and increasing demands for process reliability required additional machine tools that were both cost-effective and highly precise. Dimensional accuracy, stable machining of heavy workpieces, and reliable repeatability even during long run times were the main priorities. Purso Tools discovered KNUTH through online research. The technical concept, as well as the consulting and service, were immediately convincing.
"Purso Tools ordered the first machine, a precision lathe for turning shafts and cylindrical parts, entirely without prior trial machining," recalls Matthias Rohwer, Head of Export Sales at KNUTH. This trust paid off, and further investments followed, along with mutual visits to Wasbek and Pori. Today, four KNUTH machines support production in Finland.
"The machines perfectly complement our large-scale equipment - especially for smaller batch sizes and custom machining tasks," says Aerikkala.
They were integrated into the existing production environment without major adjustments and cover crucial steps from material cutting to precision machining.
After initial training, experienced machine operators and production staff quickly incorporated the equipment into their daily routines.
Depending on order volume, the machines are operated regularly, often on a daily basis
By integrating the KNUTH machines, Purso Tools was able to increase production capacity, improve process reliability, and further enhance consistent precision. At the same time, machine downtime was reduced, and internal workflows were streamlined. "The combination of reliability and precision helps us consistently meet the high expectations of our international customers regarding quality and delivery deadlines," Aerikkala summarizes.
Besides the quality of the machines, he values the professional, straightforward communication and clear customer focus at KNUTH.
Minor technical questions were solved quickly and pragmatically in direct contact with the service team. Purso Tools has already shared its experiences as a reference customer with other interested companies on several occasions.
"For us, it's the complete package that counts - machine quality, availability, expert advice, and personal proximity," confirms Rohwer. As Purso Tools continues to grow and the demands in the engine component market rise, reliable machine tools remain a central success factor. "Whenever we consider new machines today, KNUTH is automatically on our shortlist," emphasizes Aerikkala.
