Edging is a finishing process that involves pressure forming. On a lathe, a round workpiece is pressed against an edging tool, so that both of them rotate and the profile of the tool is transferred to the workpiece. The raised parts of the tool are pressed into the surface of the workpiece in order to machine gripping surfaces, for example, to make them grip better than smooth surfaces.
