Horizontal mitre cutting bandsaws come in several designs. They differ in rigidity, cutting geometry and suitability for series work. KNUTH supplies the common designs for workshop, steel fabrication and heavy engineering.

An important distinction is single versus double mitre. A single-mitre saw swivels to one side. A double-mitre saw swivels the bow to both sides and saves re-clamping when angles change.

Mitre cuts, angles and applications

The mitre cut separates the workpiece not at a right angle but at a set angle. This is standard in steel and metal fabrication and across mining, oil and gas and heavy engineering, wherever frames, tubular structures and profile joints are made. Typical workpieces are bars, tubes, angle steel, square tubes, H-beams and profiles in steel, stainless steel and non-ferrous metals. Depending on the series the bow swivels for different mitre angles, many models to both sides.

Levels of automation: from the manual saw to the sawing automaton

The level of automation determines throughput and operating effort. KNUTH covers the full range.

1. Manual: the operator guides the cut, ideal for single parts, repair and changing tasks.
2. Semi-automatic: hydraulic bow feed and hydraulic clamping, the operator loads and starts the cycle.
3. Fully automatic: automatic material feed via a bar magazine for series with consistent length.
4. NC control: the highest level controls length, quantity and cut sequence by program. A pure CNC mitre bandsaw is not part of the range.

Which mitre bandsaw suits your production

The choice depends on workpiece range, quantity and the automation you need. For one-off work and repair a manual or semi-automatic machine is enough. For recurring series with tight tolerances a fully automatic series with NC control pays off. If you mostly run straight cuts without mitre, the right machine is among the horizontal straight cutting bandsaws. For cut-outs and contours in the workpiece, vertical bandsaws are suitable, and for clean cuts in solid material and profiles the circular sawing machines.

Saw bands, accessories and material handling

The saw band is the wear part with the greatest influence on cut quality and tool life. Tooth pitch and band type are matched to material and cross section. Suitable saw blades and accessories are part of our programme. For longer workpieces, roller conveyors ensure safe feeding and repeatable lengths.
